Distance: 5.10k Sunday, 7.89k today
Time: 34:35 Sunday, 54:39 today
Sunday was a bit of an oddity; I meant to go for a nice nature run while we were visiting friends in Cedar (just south of Nanaimo) but my left leg was sore, so I decided to drink coffee instead. On the drive home, I started to feel that restlessness that other runners will know well. So, as soon as I unpacked, I ducked out for a quick 5k. It was cool, but not raining, thank goodness, because it was dumping rain on the Malahat. It was just nice enough that the parking lot at the Walkway was totally full. This never bodes well for me, because it usually means I’ll be jumping over dog leads and dodging non-runners. But, I was determined to get in a run before dark. Once I got out there, it wasn’t that crowded, so I don’t know where all the cars are from. Maybe they were parked there because the street is residential parking only and someone was having a Super Bowl party. Incidentally, I didn’t even remember it was Super Bowl day until I stopped at the store after my run to pick up dinner things. Not that I watch sports on TV anyway.
Today, I decided to do the yucky hill-filled 8k run that leaves from my house, since I hadn’t done it in about a month. I tried really hard to not slow down while running uphill, and I think I did better than before. I beat my last time on that course by about 5 minutes; not bad for a month’s difference! I feel like I’ve strayed from my training plan, mostly because I’ve had to squish in the longer runs whenever I can, so I think I’ve actually missed a couple of runs. My goal in the next couple of weeks is to try to get back on track. We’ll see how that goes, since I go back to my paying job this Thursday, and I’ll be working part-time. That means that I’ll have to do pick up extra shifts, so I may have to be creative with fitting in runs. Oh, and my hubby is also looking for a job, so I may have to start getting up early to get out before he leaves. On the plus side, I’ll get the run done early in the day; on the minus side, I’ll have a good excuse to skip it (i.e. an extra 1/2 hour sleep). To keep me inspired, I’ve found quite a few fellow runners on Twitter, and many of them also blog about their runs. The ones I read regularly are on the side. If you read my blog, and would like for me to read yours (and list it) just send me a comment with a link.
